The Salt March
Since India was ruled by the British, Indians were forced to buy salt from the government although there was plenty of salt on local beaches. The poor couldn't afford salt for one day. Gradually, the news got out that Gandhi was defying against British taxes again. Gandhi led all of his followers on foot to the march to sea. Gandhi wore simple white clothes because he didn't want to be different from the people. He was their leader and they all believed the same thing. At each village on the way to Dandi, their destination, more people joined the march to support Gandhi. When they reached Dandi, thousands of people with pots and pans took salt from the beach to show the British they couldn't take control of the country.
