Mohandas Gandhi strived to gain independence for India through peaceful protest. In 1915, Gandhi came back from South Africa to stay with India forever. He first started fighting for independence when he ordered independence in 1942. The British confined him for it. After all of Gandhi's acts and struggles for equal rights in India, because he felt it was his responsibility, India earned independence on August 5, 1947. Through his unique approach he dramatically improved the rights and responsibilities of people in India. Through his example other leaders were able to expand rights and responsibilities in their countries.
